Core Competencies are the knowledge and skills a person needs in order to do his or her job well. Core Competencies for CHWs include knowledge of public health, behavior change, ethics, and community resources and the ability to provide health information, facilitate groups, resolve conflicts, and conduct an initial client interview or assessment, CHW educational programs seek to strengthen CHW competencies or skills.
